Quick Tricks to Save Data When Using WhatsApp

July 26, 2021

WhatsApp can consume more mobile data than you think. If you want to avoid unpleasant surprises when you don’t have a WiFi connection, pay attention to these quick tips to save data when using WhatsApp.

WhatsApp is one of the applications that you use the most every day. Facebook’s proprietary instant messaging platform doesn’t consume much if you just write text chats, but things change when you send photos, videos, and audio, not to mention voice calls and video calls.

If the data plan of your mobile rate is quite limited, it is important that you monitor your activity on WhatsApp when you do not have a WiFi connection. Otherwise, you may get unpleasant surprises and run out of data much earlier than you expect.

But what can you do to avoid this problem? In case you didn’t know, you have the possibility to adjust some key features so that the app consumes less.

How to Save Data When Using WhatsApp

Take note of these quick tips to save data when using WhatsApp:

  • Reduce data consumption during calls. WhatsApp has a function that allows you to reduce data consumption during calls by lowering the audio and video quality.

To activate it, click the Settings tab, select Storage and data, and then check the Use less data for calls box. disable file auto download

  • Disable automatic file download. Downloading multimedia files involves significant data consumption. Fortunately, WhatsApp offers you the ability to configure automatic download.

To do this, go to Settings> Storage and data, and then go to the Automatic file download section. Here you can select that the contents are only downloaded automatically when you have a WiFi connection or never.

  • Disable backup of chats. Backing up chats also consumes a lot of data from your rate, so while you don’t have a WiFi connection, the best thing you can do to save data is to disable it.

To do this, go to Settings> Chats and then click Backup. Here, tap on the Automatic copy or Copy to Google Drive section and select No or Never.
