How to Unlock iPhone Without a Passcode

The iPhone is regularly protected by a password, which you can accidentally forget. So let’s see different methods to unlock your iPhone.

How to unlock iPhone without a passcode?

An iPhone can be locked either by a 4-digit code, a personal numeric code (without a limit of digits), or a personal alphanumeric code. Face ID or Touch ID can be added to one of these codes depending on your iPhone model.

Of course, a code is not obligatory. It becomes so whenever you want to use Apple Pay, unlock your Apple Watch, or easily reset your Apple ID password from your iPhone. When Face ID or Touch ID fails to identify you, you will be prompted for the passcode. By entering wrong codes, your iPhone will deactivate temporarily and then, if you insist, permanently.

  • Release the buttons when the Power off slider appears and drag that slider.
  • Once fully powered off, press and hold the Side button while plugging the iPhone into a computer.
  • Only release these buttons when you are on the recovery screen represented by a computer or the iTunes icon, depending on the version of iOS.

On an older iPhone, up to the iPhone 7 or 7 Plus :

  • Turn off your iPhone by long-pressing the lock button.
  • Release the button when the Power off slider appears and drag that slider.
  • Once completely off, press and hold the Volume button  while plugging the iPhone into a computer.
  • Only release these buttons when you are on the recovery screen represented by a computer or the iTunes icon, depending on the version of iOS.

Once the iPhone is in recovery mode, everything happens on your computer:

  • open Finder, or iTunes, if it didn’t open automatically;
  • select your iPhone (in this app) and click Restore in the window that appears;
  • wait while the process completes.
