Forgot iPhone Passcode, How to Reset iPhone Without PC

You may forget your iPhone passcode and can no longer access your smartphone. The solution, in this case, is to restore the device so that you can use it again. Even more useful is knowing how to restore it without the help of a computer. Here’s how to do it.

Starting with iOS 15.2 or iPadOS 15.2, you can reset and erase a passcode locked iPhone or iPad without having to connect to a computer, so without the help of a Windows PC or Mac. When the device is in lock mode, after too many wrong PIN attempts, you can enter your Apple ID and password to clear it.

This is a particularly interesting function, which was not present before iOS 15.2, and which allows you to restore your smartphone on the go. Before the update, to restore the iPhone in lock mode, it was necessary to put the device in DFU recovery mode. Also, it was necessary to connect the device to a Mac or Windows PC and use the restore process via the iTunes app.

However, after iOS 15.2 or iPadOS 15.2, you can restore directly from iPhone. Here’s how to do it.

Restore iPhone Passcode

  1. To access recovery in this way, you must first enter a wrong PIN several times on the lock screen. The first few times, the iPhone will remain locked for 1 minute, then 5, and then again for 15 minutes (the initialization function must appear when continuing to make a mistake with the PIN and then when it will be blocked for 20 or more minutes). In this last screen, you will have access to the initialization function, which will appear at the bottom right.how to restore iPhone passcode
  2. At this point, you will have to tap on the initialization option and then Initialize [device] again to confirm.
  3. To proceed, enter your Apple ID and password to log out of your Apple ID on the device. This is a security feature that prevents an attacker who has stolen the device from restoring it and using it as if it were their own.
  4. At this point, after entering the Apple ID and password, tap the Reset button to delete all data and settings permanently.
  5. When the device restarts, you will be able to configure iPhone again for correct use. Of course, you can set it up as a new iPhone, or you can set up the device by restoring data and settings from a backup. You can set a new iPhone passcode, different from the one previously forgotten.

To access this particular method, the requirements are as follows:

  • iPhone or iPad with iOS 15.2 or iPadOS 15.2, or later;
  • have an active network connection, without which it will not be possible to restore it without a computer;
  • have your Apple ID and password.
