Announced some time ago, the new Gmail interface is finally here, although not for everyone. From today, it will be possible to benefit from the graphic and functional changes proposed by the update. This will change the way users will use Google Chat, Meet and Spaces, which will be integrated into Gmail. Here’s how to activate the new interface.
We remind you that the update, as well as a graphic restyling, also proposes a new arrangement of the tools made available by Google. The new view of Gmail also has the other messaging tools of Google central, which are part of its Workspace suite dedicated to business. These tools will be accessible through large buttons on the left side.
The new interface is already available for those who want to test it. By April, it will become the default, but you can go back until the second quarter of the year when the new view will become “the standard experience for Gmail”.
How to activate the new Gmail interface
To activate the new Gmail interface, simply press the Try now button that will appear when you first enter the platform, as soon as it appears on the screen. The procedure is, therefore, very simple. At the first access to the mailbox from the desktop browser, you will see the blue button appear to test the new interface.
The rollout is in progress and, as always, is gradual. It may take a few hours, or even days, for the layout change message to appear.
At the moment, it is possible to reject the new layout. If you accept it, it is always possible to go back through the Settings button. The layout change will take place automatically for everyone from April. However, until June, there will be the option to return to the old interface via the Platform Settings section.
Note how the new interface is currently only intended for Workspace Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Fundamentals, Education Plus, Frontline, Nonprofits accounts, and G Suite Basic members and Business. Workspace Essentials profiles are, therefore, at least at the moment, excluded.
