AirPods and Airpods Pro wireless headphones, like any other smart product, need regular software updates. However, if other Apple devices have a corresponding menu, AirPods simply do not have it due to the lack of their own screen. In fact, headphone software updates are always automatic. All you have to do is put them in the case and connect to the iPhone using Bluetooth.
Typically, new firmware is always downloaded without your knowledge, and you simply do not receive any advance notifications or messages. However, sometimes the system crashes and the software does not update. What to do in such cases? There is a solution. For this, you need to perform a few simple operations.
Turn on Wi-Fi on your paired iPhone or iPad and place AirPods in the case. Then open the cover of the case. The headphone menu will appear on the screen of the connected gadget: close it, then close the AirPods lid and wait a few minutes. If Apple releases a new firmware, it will download and install automatically within the next 30 minutes.
Where to Check Firmware Versions for AirPods
Unfortunately, the manufacturer has not yet figured out how to create an official page where users could view a list of all firmware for these headsets. It would be very convenient – any headphone owner would have the opportunity to make sure that he did not miss the release of the next update.
To check the software version currently installed on your AirPods, simply:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Go to the General tab, then to Information.
- Select AirPods – there you will see all the up-to-date information of your firmware.
We recommend that you perform this procedure periodically. The latest available software version that we know of is 4A400 dated October 5, 2021. It’s that simple.
