A device inseparable from the television, the TV remote control can sometimes encounter problems and no longer work. Multiple shocks and dust accumulation are often part of the elements at the origin of the failure. If the keys on your remote are not responding, there are many methods to fix this problem in a few minutes.
Check the batteries
First of all, it is imperative to check the battery level of your TV remote control by removing the shell located at the back. In some cases, it is necessary to use a screwdriver to access the battery compartment. Remove them for about a minute, then put them back in the remote control, respecting the direction of the positive and negative terminals.
If the problem repeats, take them out again, press several keys for about a minute to drain the remaining battery, and put them back in. In the event of a breakdown, you will need to replace them with new batteries.
Reset the device to control
The TV remote control is not always at fault for its malfunction. The problem can sometimes come from the device being controlled due to a bug in the processor or the software. In the case of a television, unplug it, then wait about a minute before plugging it back in. Now press the power button on your remote.
If it still does not work, contact the TV supplier to repair it or buy a new one. You can also replace it with a universal remote control or install a remote control application on your smartphone.
Test the infrared signal
The path must be clear between your remote and your TV to communicate with each other by infrared signals. Some objects can cause poor transmission, so it is advisable to keep them away from your TV.
Electronic equipment such as radios, set-top boxes, and game consoles can also interfere with communication. You can test the infrared signal using a smartphone camera. Just point the end of the remote at the lens of the device, hold down one of the buttons and look into the screen if the IR signal appears.
Reset the remote
If your TV remote is not working, you should reset it. To do this, first, remove the batteries for about a minute. Next, hold the power button for at least 20 seconds, reinsert the batteries into the remote control, and then turn on your TV.

Disassemble and clean the remote control
Dust, bacteria, and liquids can get inside your TV remote and damage it from the inside. Therefore, you should disassemble and clean it carefully. Begin by removing the batteries from the remote control then unscrewing all the screws to gain access to the two halves of the remote control housing.
Place the button panel on its side, then position the board on a clean, dry surface. Clean by removing dirt with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol from the circuit board and remote control buttons. When all parts are clean and dry, assemble them and replace the screws. Finish with a quick cleaning of the exterior of the remote.
