The iPhone 15 Pro is months away from release, but it is already clear that it will receive more exclusive features than ever. We will talk about some of them today in more detail.
Solid State Buttons
To improve the water-resistance of the iPhone 15 Pro, Apple plans to make the power and volume buttons “solid-state”. This means that they will become fixed and monolithic, so water will not be able to penetrate inside the case through the slots that are characteristic of mechanical keys. To create the effect of pressing, small vibration motors will be built into the buttons, which will work with each press. Apple is already using this technology in the Home keys on the iPhone 7, 8, SE (2020), and iPhone SE (2022).
New A17 Chip
In 2022, Apple for the first time decided not to equip the “regular” iPhone 14 with a fresh processor. Instead, it uses the A15 Bionic chipset that was previously used in the iPhone 13. Only the 14 Pro/14 Pro Max models received the new A16 Bionic chip. Apple plans to do exactly the same for its upcoming release: the iPhone 15 will be equipped with the A16 processor, and the two Pro models will be equipped with the latest A17 chip.
USB-C Port
It looks like 2023 will finally be the year that Apple moves to USB-C in its smartphones. However, the capabilities of the ports on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro will be different. The former will provide the same speed as the old Lightning port (480 Mb/s), while the latter will be at least ten times faster (5-10 Gb/s). This will greatly speed up the transfer of large files such as movies or music libraries.
Best Zoom
The iPhone 15 Pro Max (or iPhone 15 Ultra) is the only smartphone to get a brand new zoom lens. It uses a periscope design that will achieve a 10x optical zoom. By comparison, the best zoom on the iPhone today only reaches 3x.
More RAM
By all indications, the iPhone 15 Pro will receive 8 GB of RAM. That puts it on par with the entry-level iPad Pro, MacBook Air, and even the 13-inch MacBook Pro. The increase in RAM makes multitasking much smoother, as applications are less likely to be minimized to the background. But the regular iPhone 15 can only count on 6 GB of RAM – the same amount as it is now.
